Hola, familia y amigos!
Wow, another week has seriously FLOWN by! I can’t believe that it’s already P-Day again. Another crazy thing– our district is almost done learning Spanish grammer rules and principles. The way our teacher does it is that we learn all of the Spanish in the first four weeks and then spend the next 4-5 practicing it. So hopefully with more practice, we’ll just get better and better! Plus, I’ve been reading the Spanish and English Book of Mormon side by side, and that’s been super helpful.
I’ve got a new companion this week– or I should say, we’ve got a new companion this week, because Hermana Noble has been added to Hermana Kindlespire and I! Hermana Noble’s companion, Hermana Slater, leaves for the field tomorrow. She’s super good at Spanish so the people at the MTC called her mission president and he said that she was needed in the field. Hence, I am now a part of a tri-panionship! Hermana Noble is super hilarious and is really friendly to everybody, so we should all have a lot of fun together.
In bigger news, ELDER HOLLAND was our devotional speaker on Tuesday night! We had no idea that he was going to be speaking until he walked in the room. It got really quiet and everybody just stood up and we were all freaking out! He spoke about so many things, I wouldn’t even know where to begin to recap. Let me just say that it was REALLY powerful. Lots of talk about the Book of Mormon, lots of talk about how we are continuing a legacy of exemplary missionary work, and that we have a legacy to leave behind. It was pretty great.
Speaking of Legacy…. so every Sunday they show a church movie or talk after the devotional. The first week, it was a talk by Elder Bednar, the next week it was the Testament and last week it was the Joseph Smith movie. This week, it was Legacy! The funny thing is, all the sister missionaries, at least in my district, were loving it, because it’s the closest thing we’ve got to watching a chick flick! :)
In other news, just random bits here and there, I taught one of the elders in our district how to roll his r’s. He’d never been able to do it in his life and he finally did it! It was so fun. Um, also, I LOVE TEMPLE WALKS. The weather yesterday was soo gorgeous and it’s been so nice to just get out and walk around in the sun. And lastly, I had a pretty cool experience this week with a great analogy that came to me. One of our investigators is in business school right now, and we haven’t been getting anywhere with him. All of our lessons kind of feel unproductive. I wanted to find a way to make it personal to him so that he could understand it. So i came up with this analogy of how the Godhead is like in a corporation, where you’ve got the CEO (God) and the CTO (Christ) and the COO (Holy Ghost). They all work for the same purpose (their company to succeed) but they are all individual and have separate jobs to do. And then if the company wanted to expand and franchise, for it to work in multiple locations, they need to have a process so that everyone can do it the same and be successful (aka the process of faith, repentance, baptism, getting the holy ghost and enduring to the end). God has come up with a perfect “procedure” so to speak, so that no matter who does the procedure, they can have success. Our investigator really liked the analogy and it seemed to really click with him, so yay for that!
Anyways, that’s about all I’ve got. Thanks so much for all of the letters and DearElders! I love hearing from you.
Con amor,
Hermana Rogers
